I had a dream. It wrecked me.
I had a dream last night. It's not the first of its kind, but it's the only one that made me feel the need to write about it. It's going to be unnecessarily detailed, but this is just so I can remember it.
So the earliest point of the dream that I can remember - Me, a girl, and her brother, on stage. We're backup singers for... someone. The lyrics we're singing only consist of one phrase "Sing a little louder." Once the main part of the performance is done, another female adult singer is about to solo, and so she comes in from backstage hidden behind a structure on wheels, the structure is wheeled across the front of the stage and she hops off revealing herself. She does an absolutely crazy solo, but then she signals to the girl standing next to me. The girl next to me starts to sing "sing a little louder," but each time she sang it, the adult singer would respond with the same phrase but a bit louder, and in a bit higher pitch. They kept going back and forth, she struggled to do it at first, but in the end, they both smashed it with a standing ovation from the audience. At this point, the singing part of our performance is over. The rest of the night consists of a series of weird comedy sketches.
At the end of the entire "play," I don't know what else would describe that amalgamation of on-stage entertainment, I ask her "What're you doing after" and she says that she's free, so we somehow agree to meet at school. All I see next in the dream is what you would see when a train is just leaving the station (almost like it's a transition to the next scene).
We're at school, and this girl who has remained nameless so far does have a distinct look, one that is not common with any human I've met in real life so far. Her hair, and as much as this is a dream, I'm not making this up - I've looked it up, the hair colour is called "Tony's pink." It's neck length and parted in the middle. She had green eyes and was maybe 5'5. She was wearing a white shirt with a tie and a dark grey skirt. Anyway, there's a few other people in the school, particularly the classroom we're in - My old best friend from real life, the girl's brother, a teacher (oh did I not mention we're teenagers back in high school in this dream), two of my other not so close friends from back then, and a dude who really just likes girls, and he's someone that I grew up with in real life as well, though we never actually talked.
Both of us are sitting down together, heads on our desks, and we start talking about the performance from earlier that night. She talked about how she was scared and she could feel me looking at her the entire time. She joked that she wished I could've helped her (There's also another significant thing that happens with/during the performance that involves her brother but in the course of waking up, I've forgotten about that detail of the dream). I told her the only reason I was looking at her for that long is because I couldn't look away. I make it clear, that I like her, and she reciprocates, my old best friend sitting behind us notices, we're being a bit intimate.
Next, everyone's gearing up to leave, I ask her what she's doing afterward (the time of day is really unclear in this dream) and she indicates that even though she'd love to keep hanging out, she has to go, and we'll do this again. As I get my backpack in the back of the room, my best friend comes up and disapproves of the new relationship, I forget the exact reasoning but it had to do with him not liking/trusting the girl. Two of my other friends chime in and tell me to ignore him. We're leaving (there's another detail missing from this point that I can't quite remember), she stays behind to talk to some friends and me and her brother are at the door in the front of the class. SOMEHOW, I'm able to see that her arm is grabbed by the dude who really likes girls. I walk back in without her brother and notice she then grabs his neck in retaliation. The dude is laughing about it but she's pretty mad about it, in the process of separating them the dude hugs me, after a while, he says "I just wanted a hug," I respond loudly "If you like, hug me, I won't hug back" Now that might not be a big deal to anyone reading this but back home, statements starting with "if you like" were always viewed as a savage response. So she and I walk out of the room with my hands on her waist and talk to her brother outside. He's furious about what happened but I make it clear that I handled it and it's not worth the fight and he'd get in a lot of trouble. He likes that and our metaphorical friendship level grows. She goes home with him and I walk away into my 8:50am phone alarm that made me wish I had just set it for 9 am like a normal human being.
Anyway, the dream may not seem like anything special - but those two missing details (One during the performance as she's doing her solo) and one in the classroom before the end of the dream) really do contribute to it. The dream overall made me feel really happy, but in the end sad as well, because once I woke up, I realized that I would never be able to be in a situation like that again, a situation where I meet someone amazing and just talk to them over a period of time without having to worry about midterms, or making money, or my to-do list. Just pure affection with nothing standing in the way. This is why after waking up, the first thing I said was "That wrecked me."
